Songs of days gone by
by Alice McKiel

Here are a few songs Grandma used to sing while she knitted me a scarf or mittens

YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS

There's a Yellow Rose in Texas, I'm going there to see,
No other fellow loves her, not half a much as me,
She cried so when I left her, it almost broke my heart.
And when at last I find her, we never more will part.

She's the sweetest little flower that Texas ever grew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew,
You may talk about your dearest May, or sing of Rosalee,
But the Yellow Rose of Texas is the only girl for me.
