Songs of days gone by
by Alice McKiel

Here are a few songs Grandma used to sing while she knitted me a scarf or mittens

LOCH LOMAND

By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes,
Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomand
Oh, we two have passed sae mo-ny blithesome days
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomand.

Chorus: Oh, ye take the high road and I'll take the low
And I'll be in Scotland before ye.
But, me and my true love, will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomand.

I mind where we parted in yon shady glen
On the steep side of Ben Lomand
Where in purple hue, the highland hills we view
And the morn shines out frae, the gloaming.

The wee birdies sing and the wild flowers spring,
And in the sunshine the waters are sleeping
But the broken heart it sees no second spring
And the world does na kin how we're greetin'
